Overview:
Paralegals are assigned to perform billable tasks in support of one or more lawyers. Each paralegal is also responsible to the entire firm and may be required to perform tasks for any firm member. Each paralegal has the responsibility to serve the clients of the firm to the best of his/her ability. Each paralegal shall keep records describing work performed for each client and time expended for each matter during the work day.
Paralegals may be asked to perform the following, including, but not limited to:
- Conducting fact investigation and analysis
- Conducting background investigation for parties and/or witnesses
- Obtaining photographs; documents, and physical evidence from third-parties
- Analyzing and summarizing documentary evidence, including preparation of chronologies, preparation of non-party discovery requests such as subpoenas, notices of deposition, records requests, authorizations, etc.
- Summarizing depositions and medical documentary evidence
- Analyzing billing documentary evidence
- Preparing trial notebooks, mediation notebooks, and/or deposition notebooks
- Organizing and preparing exhibits, witness data, and legal authority
Qualifications include:
- 3 years of experience in insurance defense litigation is a plus.
- Must have strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a litigation team.
- Must possess excellent organization skills, be detail-oriented, and be able to operate well under pressure with minimal supervision.
- Must be highly motivated.
Experience should include:
- Assisting attorney(s) in preparing for trials, hearings, and depositions; drafting legal documents such as subpoenas and pleadings
- Assisting in case analysis meeting all applicable deadlines
- E-filing with both State and Federal Courts
- Summarizing medical and billing records
- Summarizing depositions, and managing cases from inception to completion.

Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to:
- the individual’s skill sets, experience and training;
- licensure and certification requirements;
- office location and other geographic considerations;
- other business and organizational needs.
With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
