Tax Manager – Strategic Tax Planning & Compliance

Vaco is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead and expand a growing premium tax advisory firms'  tax services department. This position plays a key leadership role in ensuring tax compliance, developing innovative tax strategies, and supporting client financial goals across a variety of business structures and investment models.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in tax-free strategies—particularly involving entrepreneurial ventures, alternative retirement planning vehicles, and investment structures such as self-directed IRAs and ROBS. This role requires strong analytical skills, leadership capabilities, and a forward-thinking approach to client service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage day-to-day operations of the tax department
  • Prepare and review federal and state income tax returns for individuals and entities
  • Develop and implement tax planning strategies to optimize client outcomes
  • Proactively identify tax risks and present mitigation strategies
  • Supervise and mentor tax team staff, providing guidance and performance assessments
  • Establish and refine tax processes and best practices to enhance efficiency
  • Oversee tax audits and liaise with auditors as needed
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of all required tax documentation
  • Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local tax regulations
  • Assist with internal audits and special projects requiring tax expertise

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA designation (or equivalent certification) required
  • Minimum 5 years in a tax leadership or public accounting role
  • Deep knowledge of corporate tax code, compliance requirements, and planning techniques
  • Experience with various tax structures and familiarity with state and federal regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and drive operational improvements
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $125,000 – $175,000
