Assistant Controller
A growing organization is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Controller to support day-to-day financial operations and help drive ongoing process improvements. This role is responsible for managing core accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, payroll, financial reporting, and monthly close. The Assistant Controller will also play a key role in monitoring budget variances, identifying financial trends, and supporting internal controls to ensure compliance and efficiency.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. This role may also participate in cross-functional projects that contribute to broader company goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including vendor and client setup, invoicing, collections, and payment execution.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and schedules; prepare journal entries as needed.
- Lead or support payroll processing and updates, with attention to accuracy, compliance, and multi-state requirements.
- Assist with monthly and year-end close processes, financial reporting, and budget-to-actual analysis.
- Review and approve employee reimbursements and out-of-budget expense requests.
- Identify abnormal trends and provide insights to senior leadership for decision-making.
- Contribute to internal audits, system enhancements, and implementation of financial controls.
- Recommend process improvements to increase efficiency, ensure compliance, and support scaling.
- Maintain accurate documentation of procedures and financial records.
- Participate in occasional company events or team meetings, which may require limited travel (less than 10%).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience (8 years).
- 5 years of experience in accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, financial reporting, and general ledger management.
- Experience with multi-state payroll and/or tax preferred.
- Proficiency in Excel, Google Sheets, or similar tools; experience with enterprise accounting systems is a plus.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
