Job Title: Controller – Specialty Finance
Location: Hybrid (3 days in office) – New York, NY
Compensation: $140,000–$185,000 base $60,000 bonus comprehensive benefits
Experience Level: 8–10 years preferred
Requirements: CPA and Big 4 experience required
A rapidly expanding alternative investment platform is seeking a Controller to join its Specialty Finance group. This business area focuses on private credit, lending to private equity–backed companies across the capital structure. The role involves oversight of accounting, valuation, and operational processes for complex fund structures. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise, proven leadership in fund accounting, and a strong understanding of credit-related products and financing structures.
Key Responsibilities:

Oversee accounting and financial reporting for Specialty Finance funds, including closed-end and evergreen structures

Manage multiple credit facilities (subscription lines, NAV lines, ABLs), including daily trading activity and loan collections

Prepare and review borrowing base certificates, covenant reports, draw requests, and paydowns

Maintain lender relationships and ensure compliance with all credit facility agreements

Perform portfolio-level data analysis, reconciliations, and compliance testing (e.g., quality and concentration ratios)

Supervise fund administrators in preparing quarterly financials, capital calls, distribution notices, and capital account statements

Review distribution waterfalls, IRRs, and management fee calculations

Coordinate with auditors and tax professionals on year-end processes

Prepare liquidity projections and support investor reporting, RFP responses, and LP inquiries

Assist with SEC and other regulatory compliance as needed
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting or Finance

CPA required; Big 4 public accounting experience required (mix of public/private strongly preferred)

8–12 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, ideally with exposure to private credit or specialty finance

Strong understanding of fund accounting, financial reporting, and credit-related products

Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative mindset

Proficient with Microsoft Office; familiarity with loan settlement and trade reconciliation processes is a plus
