We are seeking an Enterprise Data Architect to both design the strategy for our enterprise data ecosystem and drive the execution of that vision. Today, our data spans MySQL, SQL Server, Databricks EDW, iSeries, and other sources. You’ll be responsible for creating a normalized, scalable, and future-ready environment—while guiding and mentoring engineers and analysts who build and maintain the pipelines, integrations, and reporting layers.
This is a hybrid role: part strategist, part hands-on engineer, and part leader. You’ll work across Technology, Finance, Claims, Product, and Marketing to unify the company’s fragmented data landscape into a trusted, consistent, and scalable platform for analytics, reporting, and AI initiatives.

What You’ll Do
  • Architect & Strategize: Define enterprise data strategy, standards, and governance across on-prem and cloud platforms.
  • Engineer & Build: Design and implement ETL/ELT pipelines, schemas, and models that unify data sources and optimize performance.
  • Normalize & Govern: Establish frameworks for data quality, master data management, and metadata documentation.
  • Partner & Translate: Work with business leaders to understand requirements and deliver solutions that drive value.
  • Lead & Mentor: Provide technical leadership and guidance to data engineers and analysts.
  • Enable & Optimize: Support BI and analytics teams by ensuring data warehouses, marts, and reporting environments are accurate and performant.
  • Forecast & Scale: Plan for future growth in data volumes, tools, and integrations while aligning with company objectives.

What You Bring
  • Proven experience as a Data Architect with hands-on data engineering background.
  • Deep expertise in relational databases (SQL Server, MySQL, DB2/iSeries) and cloud data platforms (Databricks, Azure, AWS).
  • Strong SQL development skills with advanced optimization.
  • Experience with ETL/ELT frameworks, data pipelines, and automation.
  • Background in data modeling, master data management, and governance.
  • Proficiency with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, Excel) and integration to back-end data stores.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to balance high-level strategy with detailed technical execution.

Expanded Qualifications
Technical
  • Expertise with ETL/ELT tools (Azure Data Factory, Airflow, dbt, Informatica, Talend, SSIS).
  • Data modeling skills: transactional (3NF), analytical (star/snowflake schemas), and lakehouse/hybrid approaches.
  • Experience with API-based integrations, iSeries data feeds, and cross-platform data movement.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Databricks Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Spark.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, lineage, security, encryption, and PII/PCI compliance.
  • Experience implementing master data management (MDM) solutions.
  • Performance tuning of large datasets across SQL Server, MySQL, iSeries, and cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with DevOps/DataOps practices (Git, CI/CD, Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM/Bicep).
Strategic
  • Experience building enterprise data roadmaps and modernization strategies (3–5 years).
  • Ability to translate technical architecture into business language for executives.
  • Proven experience in vendor/tool evaluation and data platform selection.
  • Understanding of compliance in insurance/regulated industries.
  • Skilled in mentorship and cross-team influence even without formal direct reports.
Nice-to-Have
  • Experience modernizing iSeries/DB2 environments into cloud or EDW solutions.
  • Knowledge of enterprise data catalogs (Collibra, Alation, Purview).
  • Exposure to AI/ML enablement, ensuring data structures support advanced analytics.

Preferred Background
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Management, or related field.
  • 7 years of experience in data engineering/architecture roles.
  • Experience modernizing hybrid (on-prem cloud) data environments.
  • Insurance industry or other regulated data experience is a strong plus.
