Accounts Payable Specialist
Location: Bergen County, NJ (Onsite, with flexible start times)
Compensation: $70,000 – $80,000 annually (depending on experience)
Employment Type: Permanent (open to temp-to-perm)
About the Company
We are partnering with a small, family-owned construction company in Bergen County seeking a hands-on Accounts Payable Specialist to join their close-knit team. This is a collaborative, family-oriented environment where personality and cultural fit are just as important as technical skills.
About the Role
This is a standalone AP role managing the function from end-to-end. The ideal candidate will be independent, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven — someone who can take ownership of the department without requiring heavy oversight. Construction industry experience and familiarity with job costing are highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities

Process AP invoices with 3-way match (packing slips, invoices, and POs).

Manage vendor relationships, check runs, and recurring payments.

Perform GL account reconciliations to ensure accuracy of coded invoices.

Handle intercompany transactions and statement reconciliations.

Support month-end close by meeting deadlines and ensuring accuracy.

Confirm acknowledgements and receipts for all AP activities.

Collaborate with the Controller and AP team to maintain smooth operations.

Assist with ad-hoc AP and accounting duties as needed.
Qualifications

3 years of AP experience; construction industry background strongly preferred.

Experience with job costing and reconciliation.

Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Sage 100 and Timberland is a strong plus.

Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Team-oriented personality; ability to thrive in a family-style, small office environment.
Schedule & Environment

5 days onsite (parking available).

Flexible start times: 7–3, 8–4, or 9–5 (team typically works 8:30–4:30).
