Vaco has been engaged to identify an Accounts Payable Accountant for a mid-sized company, headquartered in Birmingham. This role will report to the Accounts Payable Manager and the Assistant Corporate Controller and will perform general accounting and record keeping functions, including accounts payable, coding invoices and maintaining the database.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Accounts payable support- assemble, review and verify approval of invoices and check requests
    • Sort and code invoices
    • Post and review AP batches
    • Analyze accounts as needed
    • Maintain vendor files and database
    • Communicate with internal employees and vendor regarding payments
  • Assist in the preparation of annual 1099 forms
  • Identify, calculate, and file sales and use tax returns for purchases
  • Review employee expense reports for coding consistency and compliance with Company policy
  • Maintain Company's fixed asset sub-ledgers by recording monthly additions and disposals, calculating depreciation reports, and preparing quarterly fixed asset roll-forward schedules.
  • Maintain Company's prepaid asset schedules
  • Prepare cash coding import sheets for non-AP cash transactions (deposits and wires)
  • Reconcile bank activity
  • Prepare and maintain intercompany billing schedules
  • Update supporting schedules and account reconciliations
  • Maintain and prepare VAT filings in 3 jurisdictions
  • Coding and posting of payroll files
  • Prepare journal entries and perform monthly/quarterly close procedures.
  • Support Company initiatives
  • Ensure application of Company internal controls
  • Ad hoc tasks, as necessary, at discretion of management


  • Bachelor's degree, preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of accounts payable, general accounting procedures, and relevant accounting software (Sage 300)
  • Proficient in data entry and management
  • Ability to multi-task & prioritize well, and must be organized
  • Detail and deadline oriented
  • Team player attitude - willingness to help where needed as deadlines change
