Job Description

Vaco is assisting a growing healthcare company based in Richmond, VA with its search for a Controller. This is a hands on role that will work closely with operations, manage an accounting team, and partner with a strong executive leadership team.

The Controller has oversight responsibilities for the accounting, financial reporting, budget and forecast, internal controls, & tax planning, within the organization and reports directly to the CFO. Candidates should have an in-depth understanding of US GAAP and accounting fundamentals. The Controller is responsible for developing, maintaining, monitoring, and enforcing accounting policies in accordance with US GAAP as well as the financial reporting and disclosure guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the financial month-end close process
  • Responsible for ensuring that Financial Reports are issued on time, and in accordance with GAAP and that they fairly and accurately reflect the company's current financial position.
  • Demonstrates strategic thinking in planning for the organizations short-term and long-term financial future.
  • Responsible for ensuring systems of internal controls are in place to safeguard the organization's assets.
  • Directly participates in key initiatives and strategies to continually improve the quality and level of services provided.
  • Demonstrates an in-depth comprehension of the Company's financial information systems and their applications.
  • Assess current accounting operations, offer recommendations for improvement and implement new processes.
  • Manage projects relating to accounting systems conversions for all divisions as required.
  • Coordinate tax planning efforts to maximize tax savings opportunities.
  • Coordinate the preparation of Board of Directors materials including financial and related analyses.

Key Qualifications/Skills

  • BS/BA in Accounting or Finance, CPA or CPA candidate preferred
  • 8+ years of relevant work experience in public accounting & corporate accounting
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to mentor/develop a team
  • Healthcare industry experience strongly preferred
  • Enthusiastically participate in a team environment and support company core values
  • Ability to convey business performance in a clear and concise manner
