Our client is looking for someone to lead and oversee their finance and accounting operations here in Birmingham. The ideal candidate will have extensive job cost and percentage of completion experience and be capable of sitting in the Controller chair. This candidate will be someone who has demonstrated these concepts throughout their work history and someone who has worked extensively in a job cost/production environment. The Controller will manage the accounting department/staff, oversee the transactional accounting process, manage the company's internal controls function, and produce GAAP compliant financial statements. Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee and review all aspects of general accounting: Bank reconciliations, journal entries A/P,A/R, billing, cash reporting and other month-end close activities
  • Prepare the monthly financial reporting package, as well as Ad-hoc financial reports as-needed by management
  • Analyze cost variances and maintain a continuous job cost schedule to ensure production is on track
  • Coordinate with external auditors to assist with the annual financial statement audit
  • Ensure that the company is in compliance with local taxing authorities and ensure that all taxes (payroll, corporate, and sales) are paid in a timely manner
  • Manage and mentor the accounting department and foster a team environment

Requirements and Qualifications

  • B.S. in Accounting required, Masters preferred
  • CPA preferred
  • Extensive work experience in a production/job cost setting
  • Proficient in MS Excel, as well as technical ERP systems
  • 5+ years of experience, and must have experience in a supervisory role
  • Analytical problem solver who can think critically through different issues on their own
  • Excellent interpersonal and communicative skills
