System Engineer

Client is seeking a full-time Systems Engineer who can work both independently and as a solid team member. The System Engineer is ultimately responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of client's network, data center and cloud infrastructure. This role acts as a project manager to ensure all projects are completed according to agreed objectives, project plan, scope, budgeted effort and committed time frame. Daily activities include working with various technology services team members to support and assist in successfully implementing client's technology solutions and, also, working independently and with other Network Operations team members to deliver support and improvements to our existing technology environment. Provide technology, design, administration and support solutions for client's on-premise and cloud infrastructure in a hybrid Windows and Enterprise Linux environment.

  • Follow security design and operations best practices to ensure the corporate network and entire infrastructure is operated and maintained in a secure environment.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation including standard operating procedures, technical standards, reference architecture, logical and physical diagrams.
  • Collaborate work with Software Engineers to design and build technology solutions
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing and execution of the disaster plan when warranted in real-life situations and during bi-annual testing.
  • Serve as escalation point for Network Support Specialist team member to help facilitate problem resolution.
  • Participate in on-call rotation duties.
  • Mentor new Systems Engineers and Network Support Specialists.

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent experience in related field
  • Demonstrated experience deploying, configuring and managing Microsoft Servers and Linux Enterprise Operating Systems.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals and security principles.
  • Linux configuration management and automations tools skills (Ansible, Puppet, Chef or equivalent) .
  • Virtualization architecture and management skills, particularly with VMware vSphere.
  • Experience or interest working with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure.
  • Cloud architecture and management skills in AWS and Microsoft Azure.
  • Cloud configuration management and automation tools. (e.g. Terraform).
  • Solid understanding of LDAP, DNS, and SMTP.
  • Experience with the following technical areas
    • Scripting (PowerShell, Shell, Python, Perl, etc.)
    • Relational Database Knowledge - Oracle/PostgreSQL
    • Cisco Networking, Security, and VoIP communication systems
    • Identity Access Management - Okta/Active Directory
    • Strong project management and collaboration skills.
  • Night/Weekend/Holiday work flexibility
