Role: Accounting Operations Manager – Reinsurance
Salary: $140,000 - $175,000/annually
Location: NYC or Northern NJ (Hybrid schedule, flexible work from home)
About the role: A leading insurance organization is seeking a skilled professional to oversee the financial and operational aspects of its reinsurance activities. This role is focused on managing the full lifecycle of ceded reinsurance transactions, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and driving process improvements across systems and teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in reinsurance accounting, experience interpreting complex treaty structures, and a collaborative approach to working across departments such as IT, Finance, and Risk.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the coordination and execution of reinsurance-related financial entries, reconciliations, and reporting across multiple business units.
- Translate treaty terms into actionable processes and ensure compliance with contractual and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with data and systems teams to enhance reporting tools and automate workflows.
- Maintain documentation for operational procedures, system configurations, and internal controls.
- Manage reinsurance recoverables, billing, and cash applications, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
- Support month-end close activities and contribute to regulatory filings and internal audits.
- Provide insights and recommendations to improve upstream data quality and system performance.
Requirements:
- 5 years of experience in reinsurance operations or accounting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; advanced degrees or certifications are a bonus.
- Strong understanding of treaty structures.
- Ability to interpret and apply complex contract language to financial processes.
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with ERP systems and automation tools is a plus.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
