Hiring a Workday (HCM/Payroll/Benefits) SME for a part-time remote consultant position
Location: 100% remote in US, EST Hours
Contract Duration: 1 year
# of Hours/Week: 15-20
Pay: $70/hr W2
Role Summary
Act as a Workday SME of HCM/Benefits/Payroll partnering with the Controller and HR/Benefits/Payroll leadership to design/extract/validate audit & compliance data (401k, benefits/OE, workers’ comp), improve repeatability/governance, and stabilize reporting ahead of releases.
This role is not daily accounting; it’s Workday configuration/reporting expertise, advisory, and light integration support, including familiarity with Workday Launch Express tenants.
What You’ll Do (SME Focus)
- Translate audit/compliance asks into Workday solutions (reports, CFs, EIBs, security), recommend best practices, and define a repeatable playbook.
- Build/optimize Advanced/Composite Reports, Calculated Fields, audit trails, and dashboards for finance/HR self-service.
- Produce clean, reconcilable datasets (401k census, elections/dependents, workers’ comp payroll by class code/location); document lineage and assumptions.
- EIB/Core Connector tweaks; vendor test files (401k, WC, ben-admin) and variance explanations.
- Tighten security groups, change control, and evidence collection; create SOPs/job aids for recurring audits.
- Evaluate release impacts on reporting objects; regression test critical audit reports.
- 4 years hands-on Workday configuration/reporting across HCM/Benefits/Payroll (Financials awareness helpful but not day-to-day accounting).
- Deep skill with Advanced/Composite Reports, Calculated Fields, EIB, audit trail usage, and secure data handling.
- Proven experience preparing Workday data for 401(k), benefits/OE, and workers’ comp audits.
- Clear communicator who can coach stakeholders, set expectations, and create reusable assets.
- Nice to have: Workday Launch Express exposure; Prism/BIRT/Adaptive familiarity.
- Fewer repulls; faster audit turnarounds.
- Reusable self-service reports for Controller/HR teams.
- Clear, defensible data lineage and security posture.
