Location: New York, NY (Chelsea)
Work Arrangement: Fully onsite, 5 days per week
Compensation: $160,000–$180,000 base salary equity participation

Overview
A rapidly scaling, venture-backed technology company is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to help build and scale its accounting organization during a period of significant growth. This is a highly visible role reporting directly to the Controller and is intended to be a senior hire with a clear path toward future leadership (Assistant Controller level). This position offers the opportunity to design and implement best-in-class accounting infrastructure from the ground up, transition accounting functions in-house, and leverage automation and AI-driven tools to create a modern, highly efficient accounting organization.

Key Responsibilities
Core Accounting Operations
  • Own and drive the monthly close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
  • Establish and document scalable accounting processes, policies, and internal controls to support rapid company growth
  • Serve as a hands-on leader within the accounting function, supporting day-to-day execution while building long-term structure
Technical Accounting & Revenue
  • Research, document, and implement technical accounting guidance, including revenue recognition (ASC 606), lease accounting (ASC 842), stock-based compensation, and other complex areas
  • Partner cross-functionally to automate and streamline revenue accounting and recurring close activities
  • Support both general ledger and revenue/corporate accounting workflows, depending on strengths and business needs
Systems, Automation & Data
  • Lead or support ERP evaluation and implementation initiatives
  • Help transition accounting processes from outsourced providers to an in-house model
  • Improve data quality, reconciliations, and reporting through advanced analytics and automation
  • Work with large datasets; leverage SQL-based tools or modern analytics platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Sigma, or similar) where applicable
Procure-to-Pay & Treasury Support
  • Improve and oversee procure-to-pay processes, including vendor onboarding, approvals, invoice processing, and payment execution
  • Enhance spend visibility and controls across the organization
Audit, Tax & Compliance
  • Coordinate and support annual financial statement audits
  • Partner with external tax advisors on compliance and reporting requirements
  • Ensure adherence to GAAP and internal control standards as the company scales
Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Collaborate closely with finance, operations, and other stakeholders to analyze results, improve processes, and support strategic initiatives
  • Communicate accounting impacts clearly to non-finance partners

Qualifications
  • 6–8 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Active CPA required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Big Four public accounting experience required
  • Proven experience in a high-growth technology or startup environment
  • Strong command of US GAAP and technical accounting
  • Experience with modern accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, or similar) and advanced Excel/Sheets skills
  • Data-oriented mindset with experience in reconciliations and analytics; SQL or similar tools strongly preferred

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Experience
  • Exposure to public company or pre-IPO environments
  • Prior experience as an Accounting Manager or senior-level individual contributor in a scaling organization
  • Experience with SaaS billing platforms (e.g., Stripe or similar)
  • Interest in leveraging automation and AI tools to modernize accounting workflows
