Vaco is currently seeking a Legal Accounting Specialist for a role with a high growth law firm in Kansas City.

Direct Hire | Hybrid (4 days onsite, 1 day remote)

Salary: $60,000–$75,000 annually

Position Overview

The Legal Accounting Specialist is responsible for managing a high volume of complex legal billing activities from pre-bill through final submission. This role partners closely with attorneys, administrative staff, and internal accounting teams to ensure accuracy, compliance with billing requirements, and timely invoicing and collections.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage high-volume, complex legal billing and electronic invoicing from pre-bill generation through final submission, including edits, rate updates, and reporting.

  • Review billing guidelines and ensure all invoices comply with established requirements and internal policies.

  • Assist with identifying, applying, and reconciling payments received.

  • Proactively monitor unbilled fees, costs, and accounts receivable aging for assigned attorneys.

  • Coordinate billing and collection activities in collaboration with attorneys and the accounting team.

  • Serve as a primary point of contact between attorneys, legal administrative staff, the billing team, and external contacts for billing-related matters.

  • Support invoice resubmissions by identifying required corrections and helping implement solutions to prevent future issues.

  • Maintain accurate client and matter data within billing systems and external billing platforms, ensuring information remains current and complete.

  • Communicate clearly and promptly with internal stakeholders and external billing platforms regarding billing questions or issues.

  • Partner with accounting leadership to identify billing trends, recommend process improvements, and support operational efficiency initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Experience in billing and accounting, including reconciliations and audit support.

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and communication skills.

  • Proficiency with billing systems, electronic billing platforms, and accounting software.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
