Real Estate Portfolio Accountant
Location: Hybrid (Nashville, TN area)
Schedule: Full?time | Contract | Start ASAP
About the Opportunity
A rapidly growing real estate investment and development organization is seeking a Real Estate Portfolio Accountant to support full?cycle accounting for a diverse mix of entities. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands?on accounting, thrives in a fast?paced environment, and is motivated by helping build processes and structure within a scaling finance department.
The company operates across multiple real estate asset classes—multifamily, single?family, commercial, and hospitality—and maintains a portfolio of 20 active entities. You will work closely with the CFO to deliver accurate financial statements, support development projects, and oversee accounting across the portfolio.
This position is hybrid with flexibility but requires candidates to be local to the Nashville area for periodic onsite collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow)
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and year?end close processes
- Prepare and post journal entries including accruals, prepaids, and project?related entries
- Complete bank reconciliations, intercompany reconciliations, and balance sheet schedules
- Track and monitor project budgets; prepare P&L variance analyses
- Record and reconcile acquisition and disposition activity
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable (invoice processing, payments, revenue posting)
- Maintain reports associated with A/R and A/P
Compliance & Internal Controls
- Assist in audit preparation, including schedules and documentation
- Provide supporting reports to external CPA firm for tax filings
- Ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP
- Support internal controls, documentation, and process improvements
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field — or equivalent experience
Experience
- 3 years of real estate accounting experience
- Experience within development, construction, property management, hospitality, multifamily, mixed?use, or resort industries strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of project?based accounting and cost tracking
- Experience supporting development finance and accounting
Technical Skills
- Experience with Yardi (preferred) or similar real estate accounting systems
- Prior use of QuickBooks helpful for historical data
- Strong Excel and general ledger skills
- Comfortable managing multiple entities/LLCs
