Location: Palm City, FL
Compensation: $100-$115/annually
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Controller to lead our accounting department. The Controller will report to the CFO and jointly be responsible for the company’s financial and accounting policies, systems and processes, tax and regulatory requirements, monthly closing activities and the management of the accounting team. This role is crucial for ensuring the company’s financial health, maintaining accurate fiscal records, and providing reporting and guidance to senior leadership to support our growth and success.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations & Management
- Oversee all daily accounting operations, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Fixed Assets Management.
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes to ensure timely and accurate financial statements.
- Direct and coordinate financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting activities, including variance analysis to identify and explain discrepancies.
- Monitor cash flow and oversee treasury functions to ensure the company has the necessary capital to operate.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive system of internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
- Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements including IFTA, sales tax, and payroll taxes.
Guidance & Reporting
- Prepare and present detailed financial reports and analyses to senior management to assist in strategic decision-making.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations on key business decisions, such as equipment financing, capital expenditures, and business operations.
- Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) specific to the transportation industry, such as cost-per-mile, revenue-per-truck, and driver utilization, to drive operational improvements.
- Collaborate with the executive team to develop and execute the company’s long-term financial strategy.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of accuracy, continuous improvement, and professional growth. Establish and enforce accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistency and efficiency across the department.
- Evaluate and implement new accounting software and systems to automate processes and improve efficiency.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2-4 years as a senior accountant, accounting manager or controller role.
- In-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting.
- Experience with transportation-specific accounting processes, including fleet asset management, fuel purchasing, and multi-state tax compliance.
