About the role: A boutique private wealth advisory and investment firm in New York City is seeking a Controller to oversee the firm’s accounting operations, fund accounting, financial reporting, and day?to?day finance activities. This individual will play a critical role in maintaining accurate books, ensuring timely reporting, supporting investment operations, and strengthening internal processes across multiple entities, including partnerships, separately managed accounts, and private investment vehicles. The ideal candidate has a blend of Big 4/public accounting experience and industry exposure, thrives in a hands?on environment, and is comfortable mentoring junior team members while owning key close and reporting functions.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the monthly close process and maintain complete, accurate financial records across management company and investment entities
  • Produce recurring reporting packages and financial deliverables for client partnerships and managed accounts
  • Review daily financial summaries for key clients and ensure data integrity across systems
  • Manage reconciliations for bank accounts, investment accounts, and portfolio activity
  • Oversee accounting for alternative investments and ensure transactions are properly captured in the portfolio system
  • Coordinate quarterly billing processes for advisory clients
  • Support annual audit preparation, including drafting financials and compiling schedules for fund audits
  • Assist with tax-related deliverables by reviewing filings and supporting preparation of 1099s and investor statements
  • Monitor trading activity, resolve breaks, and collaborate with third?party reconciliation teams
  • Assist in trade execution for managed accounts based on direction from research and portfolio management teams
  • Track distributions, capital movements, and reporting for private investment vehicles
  • Ensure accurate posting of portfolio activity in systems and maintain oversight of alternative investment workflows
  • Strengthen internal controls across accounting and operational processes
  • Manage cash tracking, payment workflows, and expense processes
  • Coordinate regulatory or custody?related audits and ensure compliance requirements are met
  • Identify opportunities to streamline reporting, automate tasks, and enhance operational efficiency
  • Supervise and mentor junior finance/operations staff
  • Provide guidance on accounting best practices and help expand team capabilities
  • Serve as a collaborative partner to senior leadership, portfolio managers, and wealth advisory teams

Qualifications
  • Big 4/public accounting background required, plus relevant industry experience
  • CPA highly preferred
  • Strong foundation in GAAP and investment/wealth management accounting
  • Proven experience managing a month?end process
  • Prior experience supervising or mentoring staff
  • Ability to work cross?functionally and manage multiple priorities in a fast?paced environment
  • Exceptional attention to detail, analytical thinking, and communication skills
