About the Company
Our client is a distribution company. The Controller is a hands-on finance leader responsible for full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, treasury, and process improvement. This is a true controllership role with ownership of month-end close, consolidated reporting, year-end audit, cash flow, banking, internal controls, and team leadership. The role also has some exposure to?FP&A, budgeting, and ad-hoc analysis while playing a key role in system and process modernization. Reports to a Director of Finance with a dotted line to the CFO.

About the Opportunity
-
Manage the accounting operations including the review of journal entries, accounts
payable, accounts receivable, inventory, revenue recognition, and statutory reporting.

Responsible for the preparation of monthly financial statements and external reporting to
financial institutions, ensuring that all reporting requirements are met.

Prepare, analyze, and present monthly and annual operating results for each branch
and/or department.

Responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of financial information.

Provides advice and guidance on all accounting matters including financial systems,
record keeping, analysis, and reporting.

Establish and monitor internal controls to ensure that accounting activities are in
accordance with established legal regulatory and company policies and procedures.

Work with operations to define, measure, analyze, improve, and control current processes
which impact customer quality and influence internal operating efficiency.

Provide strategic analysis as required to drive improved decision making.

Financial reporting to various companies and agencies (Insurance, Stats Can, etc.)

Implementation and management of internal controls with respect to financial policies,
processes, and procedures

With input from the DOF, responsible for the formulation of accounting policies,
procedures, and controls.

Coordinating the year-end audit and preparation of audited financial statements, including
other customer and government audits.

With input from the DOF, assists in the budgeting and forecasting process.

Assigns and authorizes cheque runs and electronic payments.

Supporting new systems or project selections and implementation from a strategic finance
and internal control perspective.

Hiring, training, mentoring and supervising accounting staff (direct reports).

Other related duties as required or assigned.
About You
-
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline and professional accounting designation (CPA) required.

Prior experience at a large public accounting firm required (Big 6) with wholesale/ distribution industry experience preferred.

Prior experience and knowledge of all aspects of corporate accounting and financial reporting, including consolidations (ASPE).

Prior Management and/or supervisory experience.

Experience overseeing audits performed by external audit firms.

Experience with financial analysis, budgeting, and some strategic planning.

High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts.

Thorough knowledge of all relevant Federal, Provincial, and local requirements regarding financial records.

Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, problem solving, and organizational skills are essential.
Salary Range
$125,000 - $135,000/year
