About the Opportunity:
Vaco by Highspring is seeking an experienced FinOps Public Cloud Team Lead for a leading managed services provider. The FinOps Public Cloud Team Lead serves as a senior technical authority for cloud financial operations across a network of clients within a managed services organization. This individual plays a key role within the consulting practice, guiding the architecture, delivery, and continuous improvement of FinOps capabilities that help organizations better manage and optimize their cloud investments. In this leadership role, the Technical Team Lead will collaborate directly with clients as well as with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable FinOps solutions that combine financial insight with technical expertise. The position also provides mentorship and technical guidance to engineers within the team while supporting broader organizational initiatives. Success in this role requires strong leadership skills, strategic thinking, and deep experience in cloud cost governance, financial accountability, and public cloud platforms.

Job Scope / Key Responsibilities:
Client Delivery & Solution Leadership
- Ensure FinOps engagements are executed successfully by delivering high-quality services and meeting project timelines while maintaining strong client satisfaction.
- Architect and implement advanced FinOps capabilities designed for large-scale enterprise environments, including AI-enabled approaches to cloud financial management.
- Partner with client stakeholders to understand technical, operational, and financial challenges and design solutions that align with business objectives.
- Lead the development of solution architectures, technical approaches, and innovation strategies for FinOps services.
- Prepare and deliver clear technical documentation, executive briefings, and presentations for engineering teams, finance stakeholders, and leadership groups.
- Present architectural recommendations and innovative approaches to senior client leadership.
Consulting & Client Engagement
- Build trusted relationships with client teams while identifying opportunities to expand services through additional consulting engagements.
- Work closely with clients to define long-term technical roadmaps and innovation strategies related to FinOps capabilities.
- Provide expert advisory services on cloud financial management practices, governance structures, and operating models.
- Act as a senior escalation resource for technical issues impacting FinOps implementations.
Technical Architecture & Engineering
- Lead the implementation of scalable approaches for cloud cost management including allocation strategies, tagging standards, showback/chargeback models, and financial reporting.
- Conduct detailed analysis of cloud consumption patterns to identify cost drivers, billing irregularities, and optimization opportunities.
- Provide expert-level support for complex client scenarios requiring both technical engineering knowledge and financial analysis.
- Develop and maintain standardized processes, automation frameworks, and reusable assets that improve efficiency and maturity across the FinOps practice.
AI, Automation & Innovation
- Define the long-term vision for AI-driven automation within the FinOps practice, including initiatives such as anomaly detection, optimization recommendations, commitment management, and predictive budgeting.
- Integrate capabilities from leading FinOps platforms and cloud-native AI/ML services into scalable service offerings.
- Establish data governance standards for tagging, metadata, and cost datasets required for reliable automation and AI-based insights.
- Implement monitoring and lifecycle management processes for AI models used in forecasting and anomaly detection to ensure accuracy and transparency.
- Collaborate with AI/ML and platform engineering teams to design integrated FinOps and AI reference architectures.
- Promote a culture where automation and AI tools enhance the effectiveness of engineers and analysts across the FinOps organization.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Provide coaching, technical guidance, and professional development support for FinOps engineers within the team.
- Encourage collaboration across technical communities and internal initiatives.
- Support the growth and technical maturity of the broader FinOps practice through knowledge sharing and leadership.
Delivery Governance
- Define project scope, estimates, and delivery plans while proactively identifying risks and mitigation strategies in a client-facing capacity.
- Work with delivery leaders to improve service quality, identify technical gaps, and enhance FinOps delivery methodologies.
Required Qualifications:
- 10 years of experience in information technology.
- 5 years’ experience focused on FinOps, cloud financial management, or cloud platform engineering.
- Experience implementing and managing cloud cost management or FinOps platforms such as Harness CCM, CloudHealth, Cloudability, CloudZero, or comparable tools.
- Relevant certifications such as FinOps Certified Practitioner or Professional, AWS Solutions Architect, Microsoft Azure Administrator/Architect, Google Cloud certifications, or similar credentials.
- Ability to collaborate with clients in solution design sessions and translate business, financial, and technical requirements into practical FinOps architectures.
- Strong consulting mindset with the ability to clearly communicate the business value and ROI of automation and AI initiatives to executive stakeholders.
- Hands-on experience implementing FinOps practices including cost visibility, cost allocation, governance policies, optimization strategies, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
- Experience supporting enterprise adoption of FinOps operating models, cost accountability frameworks, and governance initiatives.
- Practical experience with automation and scripting technologies such as Python, PowerShell, Bash, and CI/CD tooling.
- Deep experience analyzing cloud billing data, usage trends, and optimization opportunities across major public cloud platforms including Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud.
- Broad knowledge of cloud infrastructure components such as compute, storage, networking, databases, containers, identity, and security.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Familiarity with FinOps maturity frameworks and cloud governance practices, including Infrastructure as Code and enterprise cloud operating models.
- Experience collaborating with enterprise stakeholders across architecture, operations, finance, procurement, and security teams.
- Experience implementing governance and policy-as-code solutions using tools such as Terraform/Sentinel, Open Policy Agent, Azure Policy, or AWS Config.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using modern data and analytics platforms such as Databricks, BigQuery, or Snowflake, to analyze cloud cost and usage data.
- Understanding of machine learning techniques such as time-series forecasting, anomaly detection, and clustering as they relate to cost optimization and capacity planning.
- Experience integrating FinOps platforms with automation systems, orchestration frameworks, or AI services to create end-to-end optimization workflows.
