Our client is adding a new Bookkeeper position to support continued growth and bring structure, consistency, and visibility to their financial operations. This role will play a key part in building processes, establishing financial reporting, and ensuring compliance across multiple states. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating with autonomy in a developing accounting environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and document bookkeeping processes and workflows for a growing organization
- Maintain accurate general ledger, including journal entries and account reconciliations
- Prepare and deliver monthly financial reports (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) for leadership
- Manage full-cycle payroll processing, including payroll deductions, garnishments, and benefits coordination
- Ensure compliance with multi-state payroll and tax regulations, including withholding, filings, and remittances
- Coordinate and file sales tax, payroll tax, and other applicable state and local taxes
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring timely and accurate processing
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other balance sheet accounts
- Partner with external accountants, payroll providers, and tax professionals as needed
- Identify opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, and internal controls as processes are built
Qualifications
- Proven experience in a Bookkeeper or similar accounting role, preferably in a growing or evolving environment
- Demonstrated experience working with multi-state payroll and tax compliance
- Strong working knowledge of payroll processing, including deductions, benefits, and wage laws
- Experience creating or improving financial processes and reporting structures
- Proficiency with accounting and payroll systems (QuickBooks or similar platforms preferred)
- Strong understanding of GAAP fundamentals and general accounting principles
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently
- Clear communicator comfortable working directly with leadership
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting small to mid-sized businesses
- Prior involvement in process build-out or cleanup
- Exposure to audits, external accountants, or financial reviews
