Pay Rate: $95–$110/hour
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Interim Controller to join a fast-growing fintech company focused on private credit and non-dilutive financing. This is a high-impact, hands-on role supporting a lean finance team during a leadership transition, with the opportunity to transition into a permanent position.
The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in accounting operations, financial reporting, and lending/credit environments, and thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and manage the monthly close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Oversee all core accounting functions, including:
- General ledger
- Accounts payable/receivable
- Cash management and reconciliations
- Maintain and enhance accounting policies and procedures.
- Partner with the CFO on:
- Budgeting and forecasting
- KPI reporting and financial analysis
- Lead audit and tax processes, coordinating with external stakeholders as needed.
- Own accounting and reporting for a loan portfolio, including:
- Interest income recognition
- Amortization of fees and costs
- Loan-level reconciliations
- Support and maintain credit loss reserve methodologies (CECL).
- Evaluate and document accounting treatment for financing instruments and loan modifications.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations and leadership to deliver accurate reporting to stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA strongly preferred.
- 7 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP.
- Proven experience owning or heavily contributing to the month-end close and financial reporting.
- Background in lending, private credit, fintech, or financial services.
- Experience with:
- Loan accounting and revenue recognition
- Credit loss reserves (CECL)
- Complex financial instruments (debt/equity-linked)
- Prior experience in startup or high-growth environments.
- Familiarity with QuickBooks or similar systems.
- Experience working with lean teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves mentality.
- Strong attention to detail and ownership mindset.
- Ability to operate independently in a lean, fast-moving environment.
- Strong communicator, comfortable partnering with senior leadership.
- Problem-solver with a focus on process improvement and efficiency.
- Location: NYC preferred (hybrid, 2–3 days/week onsite).
