Medical Billing Clerk
Location: Gardena, CA (100% Onsite, Mon–Fri)
Compensation: $25-$27/hr
Duration: Contract- Approximately 2 to 3 months
Overview
We are partnering with a nonprofit behavioral health organization in Gardena to place a Medical Billing Clerk on a short-term contract basis. The existing billing team is managing a significant backlog of AR cleanup work and needs dedicated support to research claim statuses and post payments across multiple insurance payer portals. This is a detail-oriented, high-volume role where accuracy and independence are critical. The assignment is estimated at 2 to 3 months with an immediate start.
Key Responsibilities
- Log into various insurance payer portals to research and verify claim statuses, including paid, denied, and pending claims
- Post payments and denial information accurately into eClinicalWorks EHR system
- Perform AR aging cleanup and research across a backlog of outstanding claims
- Identify discrepancies and flag unresolved claims for the billing team lead
- Communicate updates and findings to a mostly remote billing team via Microsoft Teams
- Perform basic data entry and tracking in Excel to support AR reporting
Ideal Candidate
- Self-sufficient and detail-oriented with the ability to work independently on-site while collaborating with a remote team
- Comfortable with high-volume, repetitive transaction-based work
- Familiar with how insurance claims are adjudicated and the payer portal research process
- Experience with FQHC or community health center billing is a strong plus
- Nonprofit or behavioral health billing experience is helpful but not required
Requirements
- Medical billing experience required, specifically patient billing and claims processing
- Familiarity with insurance payer portals and AR research
- Experience with eClinicalWorks or a similar EHR system preferred
- Basic Excel proficiency required
- Must be able to commute to Gardena, CA five days per week
