Vice President of Engineering / CTO
 
Vaco has been retained to assist a stellar SaaS B2B Company to backfill there retiring CTO. Our client is on a mission to redefine how organizations manage job descriptions. They deliver a fantastic product and are an experienced and enthusiastic team dedicated to helping clients become job description guru’s! There groundbreaking job information and description management solution is highly configurable, extremely powerful, and can accommodate even the largest and most intricate organizations.

As Vice President of Engineering at our client, you will shape and implement the Company's technology strategy, ensuring security and uptime for our cloud operations, and continuing to build our industry-leading product. You’ll be a key member of our Senior Leadership Team, and report directly to the CEO. You will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive technology strategy aligned with the company's mission and objectives and will serve as the strategic leader of the clients Cloud Operations, IT team, and Software Engineering team. You will continuously evaluate and improve processes to adapt to market trends and growth opportunities.

What you'll do: 
  • Partner with the CEO and the Senior Leadership Team to set clear priorities and goals for the Technical Team, balancing immediate operational and sales requirements with long-term vision and strategy.
  • Provide support and oversight to the Director of Cloud Operations and IT to define and meet the team’s uptime, cybersecurity, and compliance commitments.
  • Provide support and oversight to the Director of Software Engineering to define and meet the team’s roadmap, product quality, and innovation commitments.
  • Develop and improve operational strategies, metrics, and reporting related to Cloud Operations and Software Engineering functions.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and others to build a Product Team from the ground up, integrating this team with the Software Engineering team.
  • Work with the Director of Software Engineering and the Product Team to set a clear vision and plan for s technical future.
  • Work with Director of Cloud Operations and IT, and the entire Technology Team to achieve SOC II Type 2 compliance starting in 2025.
  • Develop and manage the Technical Team’s annual budget.
  • Facilitate the continual improvement, testing and implementation of Disaster Recovery and Incident Response plans.
  • Manage the Technical Team resource allocation, goal/OKR setting and performance metrics.
  • Provide regular performance feedback and one-on-one discussions with team members.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards and industry best practices.
  • Identify and manage risks associated with all technology operations and product development.
  • Foster an engaging, fun, collaborative, and performance-driven work environment resulting in low employee turnover and high employee satisfaction.
What you’ll need to have:
  • 10 years of technical experience in a SaaS B2B software company.
  • 3 years leading software engineering teams, with a solid understanding of software engineering.
  • 3 years leading cloud operations Teams, with a solid understanding of cloud engineering.
  • Experience leading SOC II Type 2 compliance at a software company.
  • Ability to identify and manage risks associated with all technology operations and product development.
  • Strong bias toward action.
  • Ability to solve problems autonomously.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science, software engineering, or related discipline.

As a bonus, you’ll have:
  • Strong experience working with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft .NET technology
  • Experience working with large customers (Fortune 1,000).
  • Experience working in B2B HR Technology with large enterprise customers, specifically working with CHRO, Talent Acquisition, Talent Compliance, and/or Compensation departments.
  • Experience as a key partner in strategic planning for a growing B2B software business.
  • Customer Operations and/or Customer Success experience.
  • Product Management experience.
Client is currently operating on a hybrid-remote model with both in-office and remote work. This position is based in Raleigh, NC and the VP of Engineering is expected to have a visible presence across the organization. We are open to someone a 2-hour flight to the Raleigh-Durham area.


This role reports to our Chief Executive Officer with a competitive compensation package. For the right candidate we would consider a CTO title.

Team size roughly 25 with 2 Directs.
