Vaco has a great opportunity for a Controller in Jacksonville, Florida.  This position is either fully onsite or hybrid.
 

Team Environment

Work within a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment partnering with clinical leadership, departmental managers, and corporate support teams including Human Resources, Revenue Cycle, Information Technology, Operations, and Marketing. This role regularly interacts with stakeholders across all levels of the organization—from administrative staff to executive leadership and board members.


Position Summary

The Controller is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations and financial management of the organization. This individual will lead key financial processes, monitor performance metrics, and ensure alignment with budgetary goals. The role includes direct supervision of a small accounting team and plays a critical role in supporting strategic decision-making through financial analysis and reporting.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ERP systems and payroll platforms (ADP highly preferred)
  • Background in a multi-entity or services-based environment
  • Professional certification such as CPA preferred
  • Advanced degree (e.g., MBA) is a plus
  • 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities

Overview of Responsibilities

The Controller manages the financial operations of the organization, including preparation and analysis of financial statements, oversight of accounting functions, and support of internal and external reporting requirements. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, and providing insight into financial performance and forecasts.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Close

  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries and reconciliations
  • Prepare and distribute internal financial statements and management reports
  • Support annual audit processes and external reporting requirements

General Ledger & Compliance

  • Maintain integrity of the general ledger and financial reporting structure
  • Ensure proper revenue recognition and expense allocation across reporting periods
  • Establish and maintain internal accounting policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and reporting standards

Cash Management & Banking

  • Perform and review bank reconciliations across multiple accounts
  • Manage banking relationships, including credit facilities and cash management tools
  • Oversee cash flow monitoring and forecasting

Accounts Payable, Payroll & Operations Oversight

  • Supervise daily accounting operations including accounts payable, payroll, and general accounting
  • Monitor team productivity and accuracy across financial processes
  • Support inventory, fixed asset tracking, and cost accounting where applicable

Analysis & Strategic Support

  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities
  • Prepare forecasts and support budgeting processes
  • Utilize reporting tools to extract and analyze financial and operational data

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules
  • Support retirement plan administration and compliance activities
  • Oversee vendor relationships, including payment processing and service agreements
  • Lead or support special projects and process improvement initiatives
  • Hire, train, and mentor accounting staff
