Payroll Specialist (Temporary – 6 Month Assignment)

Duration: 6-Month Temporary Assignment (Leave Coverage)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our accounting team on a 6-month temporary basis to provide coverage during an employee leave. This is a hands-on role responsible for processing semi-monthly payroll for approximately 300 employees within a lean, collaborative accounting department. The ideal candidate will be able to step in quickly, work independently, and ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Process semi-monthly payroll for approximately 300 employees (employee count decreases seasonally during summer months)
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing, including taxes, deductions, and benefit withholdings
- Maintain payroll records and support payroll-related reporting and reconciliations
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies
- Work closely with the accounting team to support payroll operations and compliance
- Follow established payroll procedures while maintaining a high level of accuracy and efficiency
Qualifications
Required:
- Recent hands-on experience with Paylocity (required)
- Full-cycle payroll processing experience for a similar employee population
- Ability to quickly learn the environment and operate independently after a short ramp-up period
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
Preferred:
- Experience working in a nonprofit, educational, or school environment

- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and meeting strict payroll deadlines
