Pay Rate: $100–$115/hour
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Interim Senior Manager/Director of Technical Accounting & Accounting Policy to support a growing financial services organization. This individual will provide additional senior-level expertise across technical accounting, accounting policy, CECL, corporate accounting, and financial reporting initiatives.
The ideal candidate will be a hands-on CPA with strong U.S. GAAP technical accounting experience and the ability to research complex accounting matters, develop and document accounting conclusions, review significant accounting activity, and partner effectively with accounting, credit, finance, and other cross-functional teams.
Experience within banking, financial services, fintech, lending, or payments is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Policy & Technical Accounting
- Research, analyze, document, and communicate accounting conclusions under U.S. GAAP for new products, business initiatives, and complex transactions.
- Prepare and review technical accounting memoranda supporting accounting conclusions related to lending products, payment products, and other transactional areas.
- Provide accounting expertise and input into the CECL process in partnership with Credit and other cross-functional teams.
- Assist with annual reviews and revisions of existing accounting policies.
- Provide additional technical accounting capacity as the organization develops and enhances quarterly reporting processes.
- Partner with business and finance stakeholders to evaluate the accounting implications of new products and transactions.
Corporate Accounting
- Review significant journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations, with particular emphasis on lending-related activity.
- Provide an additional level of review over CECL calculations and related accounting.
- Support accounting for loans and CECL, debt and equity investments, other financial assets, equity transactions, business combinations, and other corporate transactions.
- Assist the broader accounting organization with complex or non-routine accounting matters as needed.
Controls & Process Improvement
- Support improvements to accounting processes, controls, and reporting procedures.
- Identify opportunities to automate accounting activities and improve scalability and efficiency.
- Assist with internal and external audit requests and related documentation.
- Support the implementation and operationalization of accounting policies throughout the organization.
- Identify opportunities for additional accounting and process-improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Active CPA license required.
- 10 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and demonstrated expertise applying U.S. GAAP.
- Experience researching complex accounting matters and preparing technical accounting memoranda.
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, corporate accounting, and internal controls.
- Ability to operate effectively in a hands-on interim/consulting capacity.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work cross-functionally.
Preferred Qualifications
- Combination of public accounting and industry experience.
- Banking, financial services, or fintech industry experience.
- Hands-on knowledge of CECL and loan accounting.
- Experience with accounting for investments, derivatives, consolidations, business combinations, and revenue recognition.
- Familiarity with regulatory reporting concepts applicable to financial institutions.
- Experience supporting lending, payments, embedded finance, warehouse lending, digital assets, or other fintech products.
