Role: Interim Controller (Consultant – Full-Time)
Compensation: $75-100/hour
Location: Remote (MUST be U.S. based – ET or CT preferred; periodic travel required)
About the Role: A growing multi-site organization is seeking an Interim Controller to oversee accounting operations and support the company through continued growth and organizational expansion. This role will play a key part in maintaining financial accuracy, strengthening processes, and ensuring effective reporting across a diverse business portfolio. The Controller will be responsible for leading the day-to-day accounting function while helping drive consistency, scalability, and operational excellence throughout the organization. This individual will work closely with finance leadership and business stakeholders to support reporting, compliance, process improvements, and business integration activities.
This position is ideal for a hands-on accounting leader who enjoys balancing operational execution with strategic initiatives and is comfortable navigating a dynamic, growth-oriented environment.
Responsibilities
- Oversee accounting operations, including general ledger activities, month-end close, reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management functions
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency
- Prepare and review financial reports, cash flow analyses, and other management reporting deliverables
- Partner with leadership to improve accounting processes, reporting capabilities, and financial controls
- Support business integration activities, including accounting alignment, process standardization, and financial onboarding of newly acquired or newly established business units
- Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures across the organization
- Coordinate external audits, tax filings, and other compliance-related requirements
- Assist in evaluating and implementing system enhancements, reporting tools, and ERP-related initiatives
- Monitor key accounting risks and recommend process improvements to strengthen financial operations
- Oversee banking activities and treasury-related processes, including account management and controls
- Support multi-entity reporting and consolidation activities
- Recruit, develop, and mentor accounting team members while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
Background & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA strongly preferred
- Progressive accounting leadership experience with responsibility for financial reporting, close processes, and internal controls
- Experience supporting business growth, organizational change, mergers and acquisitions, or integration initiatives required
- Background in operationally complex organizations such as distribution, manufacturing, industrial, consumer products, or related sectors
- Experience working with private equity backed companies
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, inventory accounting, revenue recognition, working capital management, and general accounting principles
- Experience working with ERP systems and multi-entity accounting environments
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage multiple priorities, and drive process improvements
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across finance, operations, and executive leadership
- High attention to detail, sound judgment, and a strong sense of ownership and accountability
