Schedule: Fully Onsite 5 days a week
Salary: 130,000-$140,000 with bonus and equity options

About the Role

We are seeking a Property Accounting Subject Matter Expert (SME) to ensure accuracy and integrity across accounting workflows that impact resident ledgers and related product functionality. You will serve as the internal authority on multifamily property accounting, helping ensure seamless alignment between accounting principles, client systems, and product execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on core accounting scenarios – Provide expertise on rent, concessions, security deposits, refunds, subsidies/HAP, delinquency management, utilities, move-ins/move-outs, and month-end close processes
  • Translate accounting workflows into product requirements – Convert real-world accounting use cases into clear functional requirements and acceptance criteria; validate features prior to release
  • Review calculations and logic – Ensure accuracy of prorations, allocations, adjustments, and charge/credit logic, with clear and explainable outputs
  • Lead testing and validation – Develop test cases, support UAT with client accountants, and confirm outputs reconcile to expected accounting results
  • Define standards and terminology – Establish consistent definitions, event workflows, and reference materials for accounting processes used across internal teams and clients
  • Capture best practices – Identify patterns, edge cases, and exceptions from enterprise clients and translate them into scalable accounting standards and playbooks

Requirements

  • 5 years of multifamily property accounting or controllership experience (PMC, owner-operator, or REIT preferred)
  • Strong understanding of GL, sub-ledgers, resident ledgers, security deposits, and month-end close
  • Solid grounding in US GAAP
  • Experience working with client-facing accounting, operations, or leasing teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred

  • CPA certification
