Our client, a large-scale energy and infrastructure company, is seeking a Head of Accounts Payable to lead and transform its Procure-to-Pay (P2P) function.
Location:
San Francisco, CA. The position is hybrid, but the client might consider exceptional remote candidates.
Job Description:
This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for driving process improvement, automation, governance, and operational excellence across a high-volume AP environment. The ideal candidate brings a blend of accounting expertise, people leadership, and technology-driven process improvement experience.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee end-to-end Accounts Payable and Procure-to-Pay operations in a high-volume environment
- Manage, mentor, and develop a large AP team while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and results-oriented culture
- Drive automation initiatives and process improvements to enhance efficiency, scalability, and control
- Evaluate, implement, and optimize expense management and corporate card programs
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls across the P2P lifecycle
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP, SOX requirements, and audit standards
- Partner with Procurement, Operations, IT, Finance, and other business functions to streamline processes and improve data quality
- Oversee AP-related month-end close activities, reconciliations, accruals, and subledger-to-general-ledger accuracy
- Leverage reporting and analytics tools to monitor performance, identify trends, and support decision-making
- Serve as a key point of contact for internal and external auditors on AP-related matters
Requirements:
- 15 years of progressive accounting and accounts payable experience, including significant leadership responsibility
- Proven experience leading large teams within complex, high-volume organizations
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, SOX compliance, internal controls, and audit requirements
- Experience implementing or optimizing AP automation, expense management, and workflow technologies
- Strong business partnering, communication, and cross-functional leadership skills
