Interim Accounting Manager

Our client, a reputable non-profit organization, is seeking an Interim Accounting Manager to join their team. This role involves managing daily operational accounting activities, GL, and close processes, as well as supporting the team through an external audit. The position offers a collaborative work environment with opportunities for professional growth and development. 

Responsibilities:

  • Report to the interim controller and manage daily operational accounting activities.
  • Perform close activities related to month-end and year-end deadlines, including monthly reconciliation and analysis.
  • Ensure proper accounting of revenue recognition, accounts receivable aging, federal grants, and operating expenses.
  • Handle technical areas such as lease and revenue accounting, and cash management.
  • Manage full cycle GL operational accounting and daily accounting requests.
  • Prepare items and documentation for various audit needs and support the team in audit preparations.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
  • Support annual tax preparation and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Develop internal control procedures to ensure compliance and mitigate financial and audit risks.
  • Enhance financial systems, reporting systems, processes, and controls to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Undertake other ad hoc projects and initiatives as assigned by the Interim Controller and VP of Finance and Administration.

Requirements:

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent degree.
  • Senior Accountant or Manager with a strong operational GL Accounting background.
  • Experience in close activities and day-to-day operational accounting.
  • Preferably experienced in non-profit, public institution, or higher education environments.
  • Familiarity with federal financial aid, grants, and endowment funding sources.
  • System skills in Colleague GL software or related ERP systems (nice to have).
  • High degree of initiative, dependability, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, and excellent analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a deadline-driven, dynamic environment.
Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure: $65 - $75 per hour.
