Job Title: Senior Accountant
Job Type: Full-Time, Contract to Hire
Reports To: Accounting Manager

Position Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Accountant with a focus on grants and financial reporting to oversee and manage the financial operations associated with grant funding. This role involves budgeting, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with grant regulations. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering precise and timely financial reports to both internal and external stakeholders while upholding the integrity of financial data. This position is ideal for an individual with substantial experience in grant management and financial analysis, particularly within non-profit, governmental, or healthcare sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Grant Oversight:
    Manage financial components of grants including budget development, forecasting, monitoring, and reporting.
    Ensure adherence to grant guidelines and regulations.
    Collaborate with program managers to ensure optimal allocation and use of grant resources.
    Prepare and submit detailed financial reports to grantors, including the SEFA, and assist with financial and grant audits.

  • Compliance and Risk Management:
    Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local grant and financial reporting regulations.
    Monitor and enforce internal controls to protect assets and guarantee accurate financial reporting.
    Participate in risk assessments and devise strategies to mitigate financial risks.

  • General Ledger Management:
    Support the maintenance of the general ledger by preparing and posting journal entries.
    Ensure accurate recording of all financial transactions.
    Track and manage fixed assets and related depreciation schedules.

  • Bank Reconciliation:
    Conduct monthly bank reconciliations to verify cash balances and resolve discrepancies.

  • Month-End Close:
    Assist with the month-end close process, including preparing journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
    Ensure completeness and accuracy of financial information.

  • Financial Reporting:
    Prepare and assist with the creation of financial statements and reports in compliance with GAAP.
    Contribute to budget and forecast preparation.

  • Team Collaboration:
    Partner with various departments to support financial planning and analysis.
    Communicate effectively with stakeholders including department heads, auditors, and grantors.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • 5-7 years of accounting experience, with a minimum of 3 years specifically in grant management and financial reporting.
  • In-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Proficiency in financial software and advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience in non-profit or healthcare sectors is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
