Vaco is assisting a Birmingham client looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Purchasing Assistant to join their team. The successful candidate will support the purchasing department in all procurement activities, ensuring timely and cost-effective purchases while maintaining good relationships with suppliers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in sourcing and selecting suppliers based on quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Prepare and process purchase orders, requisitions, and other procurement documents.
- Monitor inventory levels and place orders when necessary.
- Communicate with suppliers to confirm order details, delivery timelines, and address any issues.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and vendor details.
- Support the Purchasing Manager in negotiating contracts and managing supplier relationships.
- Track shipments, ensure timely delivery, and resolve any discrepancies or delays.
- Assist in evaluating supplier performance and making recommendations for improvements.
- Collaborate with other departments to forecast demand and optimize supply chain efficiency.
- Perform general administrative duties related to purchasing, such as filing and data entry.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is preferred.
- Proven experience in a similar role, ideally in procurement or supply chain management.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with purchasing software is a plus.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
