Senior Accountant

A growing financial consulting firm is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its expanding team, which provides accounting and compliance services to a wide range of businesses, including startups and established companies. The firm specializes in assisting clients with managing grant funding and ensuring compliance with federal regulations. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a client-focused environment, providing essential financial support and advisory services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of accounting and compliance engagements, providing support to small and medium-sized businesses.
- Apply expertise in both GAAP accounting and grant accounting standards to client engagements.
- Review journal entries, financial reports, and other financial schedules prepared by Staff Accountants.
- Ensure the implementation and operation of effective internal controls for clients.
- Provide clients with monthly financial reports, analysis, and guidance on compliance with grant accounting regulations.
- Lead new clients through the establishment of a compliant chart of accounts and internal control frameworks in accordance with federal regulations.
- Assist clients in drawing funds from awarding agencies and preparing Accounting Policies & Procedures Manuals.
- Support clients through financial audits and regulatory reviews.
- Contribute to the development of internal policies and procedures, as well as educational resources for the team.
- Mentor and guide junior staff members, supporting their professional development.
Core Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.
- In-depth understanding of the monthly accounting cycle and grant compliance.
- Excellent organizational skills with a focus on meeting deadlines.
- Ability to convey complex accounting concepts clearly to clients without financial backgrounds.
- A commitment to delivering excellent client service and adapting to changing priorities.
- Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with accounting software.
- Collaborative mindset and strong communication skills.
- Desire for continuous learning and feedback.
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least 4 years of experience in accounting.
- CPA preferred, but not required.
