About the Role: Our client, a growing family office and foundation, is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead accounting and financial operations for a growing multi-entity organization. This is a newly created position that offers the opportunity to build and strengthen the finance function while supporting a well-resourced organization with both operating and philanthropic activities.
Reporting to senior leadership, the Controller will take ownership of day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, controls, and operational finance processes across multiple entities. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a small, collaborative environment, taking initiative, and building practical solutions from the ground up.
The successful candidate will serve as the primary internal accounting leader, partnering with external advisors and service providers while developing scalable processes and financial infrastructure to support future growth.
CPA required. Mix of public/private preferred. Must have strong Controllership experience with multi-entity accounting. QuickBooks highly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Oversee accounting operations across multiple entities, ensuring financial records are accurate, complete, and timely
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and prepare financial reporting packages for leadership
- Maintain general ledger activity, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation
- Administer payroll, accounts payable, expense reimbursements, cash management, and other day-to-day finance activities
- Develop and strengthen accounting policies, internal controls, and operational procedures
- Coordinate with external accounting, tax, and audit partners to support compliance and reporting requirements
- Manage financial reporting and accounting activities for affiliated operating and nonprofit entities
- Monitor cash balances, support budgeting activities, and provide financial insights to leadership
- Evaluate and improve existing workflows, systems, and finance processes to enhance efficiency and scalability
- Assist with implementation of new financial tools, reporting capabilities, and process automation initiatives
- Support leadership on special projects, operational initiatives, and ad hoc financial analyses
- Serve as a trusted resource for accounting and financial matters across the organization
Qualifications
- CPA required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Significant experience in controllership, accounting leadership, or a similar role with responsibility for full-cycle accounting
- Strong understanding of general accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls
- Experience managing accounting across multiple entities or business units
- Comfortable operating in a small-team environment with a high degree of autonomy
- Proven ability to establish processes, improve systems, and build scalable accounting infrastructure
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Excellent communication and relationship-building capabilities
- Experience working with external accountants, auditors, tax advisors, and service providers
- Familiarity with accounting and finance technology platforms - QuickBooks preferred
