Our client is seeking a fully remote Director of Accounting who has a strong background with self-funded and/or level-funded health plans in the health insurance industry. The Director will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance, and providing strategic financial insights to support the company's growth and stability.
Responsibilities:
- Financial Strategy and Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive financial strategies and plans that align with the company's short- and long-term goals. Collaborate with the executive team to establish financial objectives, budgets, and forecasts.
- Financial Reporting and Compliance: Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and relevant laws and policies.
- Compliance and Governance: Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards, including ACA, ERISA, and HIPAA.
- Fund Management: Oversee the management of funds allocated for healthcare claims, ensuring adequate reserves are maintained.
- Financial Analysis and Risk Management: Conduct in-depth financial analyses, identify potential risks and opportunities, and provide actionable insights to support strategic decision-making. Implement effective risk management strategies to mitigate financial and operational risks.
- Capital Management: Manage capital allocation, cash flow, and investment decisions to optimize financial performance and ensure the company's long-term financial sustainability.
- Healthcare Reimbursement and Payer Relations: Develop and maintain effective relationships with payers (insurance companies, government agencies, etc.) to optimize reimbursement rates and ensure timely payments for healthcare services.
- Internal Controls and Audits: Establish and maintain robust internal control systems to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data. Collaborate with external auditors and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and address any identified issues.
- Leadership and Team Development: Provide strategic leadership to the finance team, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement. Recruit, develop, and retain top finance talent.
- Board and Executive Collaboration: Serve as a trusted advisor to the Board of Directors and the executive team, providing financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making processes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree or CPA preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in financial management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within the health insurance industry, preferably with level-funded or self-funded plans.
- Strong knowledge of health insurance financial structures, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Proven track record of strategic financial planning and risk management.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in financial management software and tools.
