Hybrid role based in Austin, TX – 1 day onsite per week required
Vaco is conducting a search on behalf of a growing organization seeking a Director of IT Operations and Strategy to oversee and manage its IT infrastructure, cloud operations, and support services. This strategic role requires a hands-on leader with a strong technical background and proven experience in managing complex technology environments. About the Role
As the Director of IT Operations and Strategy, you will be responsible for leading the organization's IT infrastructure, cloud services, and operational efficiency. This includes optimizing AWS spend and vendor management, overseeing Office 365 deployment and administration, and managing small legacy data center server environments. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in cybersecurity and security audits, as well as managing ISP, network, and phone systems. This is an exciting opportunity to drive strategic IT initiatives and deliver scalable, secure, and cost-effective solutions.
Key Responsibilities

Cloud Operations Management:
Oversee AWS environments, ensuring optimal configuration, performance, cost efficiency, and security. Manage AWS spend and vendor relationships to maintain budgetary control and operational excellence. -
Office 365 Administration:
Lead deployment, administration, and ongoing management of Microsoft 365 to support collaboration and productivity across the organization. -
Data Center Oversight:
Manage small legacy data center server environments, ensuring security, efficiency, and compliance with industry best practices. -
Infrastructure Leadership:
Direct management of ISP, network, and phone systems to ensure reliable connectivity and communication across the organization. -
Service Desk Supervision:
Oversee the IT service desk team, ensuring timely issue resolution and delivering exceptional user support. -
Cybersecurity Management:
Implement and manage cybersecurity measures, perform security audits, and ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards. -
Strategic IT Planning:
Collaborate with leadership to define and execute long-term technology roadmaps and tactical plans aligned with business goals. -
Financial Oversight:
Develop and manage budgets, forecast IT expenses, and monitor financial performance to ensure resources are effectively allocated. -
Policy and Compliance Management:
Establish and maintain IT policies, procedures, and documentation to ensure alignment with regulations and security standards. -
Process Improvement:
Identify opportunities to enhance IT operations, streamline processes, and achieve cost savings. -
Team Leadership and Development:
Lead, mentor, and develop an IT operations team focused on innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Who You Are

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
- 10 years of IT operations experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

Technical Expertise:
- Strong knowledge of AWS cloud environments, including cost management and vendor relationships.
- Experience with Microsoft 365 deployment, administration, and support.
- Proven experience managing small legacy data center server environments.
- Expertise in cybersecurity measures, including performing security audits and maintaining compliance.
- Familiarity with managing ISP, network, and phone systems.
- Working understanding of ITIL and ITSM frameworks.

- Proven ability to manage IT service desk functions and deliver exceptional customer service.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate across teams and with senior leadership.

Additional Details
- Candidates must reside in or be willing to commute to the Greater Austin, TX area.

Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to:
- the individual’s skill sets, experience and training;
- licensure and certification requirements;
- office location and other geographic considerations;
- other business and organizational needs.
With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
