Vaco is partnering with a leading global communications company to hire a Systems and Test Engineer Engineer for a key project located in the Phoenix valley.

Our client, is on a mission to deliver secure, high-capacity connectivity solutions to transform the way the world communicates. This opportunity is ideal for an engineer who's experienced in secure communications systems compliant with NSA standards. The role focuses on creating innovative solutions for secure communication technologies and supporting high-assurance encryption products.

If hired, you'll be at the ground floor of standing up a new TEMPEST lab at their growing Tempe campus, owning initial hardware design, systems development, testing, processes/procedures, and liaising with government stakeholders and regulators. All with the end goal of attaining Level I NSA certification (testing services) in the shorter term, and Level II in the future.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with hardware and mechanical engineers to design TEMPEST-compliant products.
  • Develop, review, and test innovative solutions, including crafting test plans, procedures, and reports.
  • Participate in certification processes, ensuring adherence to NSTISSAM standards.
  • Conduct testing in alignment with NSTISSAM TEMPEST/1-92 and 01-02 guidelines.
  • Identify and resolve test failures through root cause analysis.
  • Act as a liaison with relevant authorities to secure successful certifications.
  • Provide technical support for troubleshooting and evaluating production-related issues.

Qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience in hardware design and testing of secure communications systems
  • 1 years of hands-on experience testing devices and systems accordance with TEMPEST standards.
  • Strong background in electrical engineering and/or electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). Specifically:
    • Strong knowledge in analog and digital circuit design and timing.
    • Familiarity with signal processing, RF shielding, and cybersecurity
    • Proficiency with test equipment such as receivers, oscilloscopes, and signal analyzers.
  • Demonstrated data-driven decision making abilities for root cause analysis of systems and hardware
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to report technical findings clearly.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Physics, etc. 
  • U.S. citizenship is required, along with an active DoD Secret Clearance (or eligibility for Top Secret clearance).
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time for local candidates. 

Preferred Skills:

  • Prior experience supporting program efforts of a testing / manufacturing facility to attain a NSA and/or NATO certification, with TEMPEST program experience most preferred
  • Certified TEMPEST Professional (Level I or II).
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-461/464 and DO-160 EMI/EMC standards.
