Job Description: The Senior SOX Analyst - Technology & Systems plays a crucial role in supporting the organization’s compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) regulations, particularly in relation to IT General Controls (ITGCs), system-related controls, and automation that impact financial reporting. This position is responsible for collaborating with IT teams, control owners, and auditors to maintain and improve internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) while ensuring that all processes remain compliant with SOX requirements. The Senior SOX Analyst will contribute to the testing, monitoring, and documentation of IT and system-related controls, and assist in the implementation of process improvements.
Responsibilities:
- Support SOX Compliance Efforts: Assist in the execution of SOX compliance initiatives by testing ITGCs and system-related controls across various areas, including access management, change management, and data integrity. Help identify areas for automation and process optimization to reduce manual processes and support ongoing compliance.
- Control Monitoring and Testing: Perform regular testing and monitoring of IT and system-related controls to ensure they remain effective and meet the evolving needs of the business. Document findings and collaborate with control owners to address any identified deficiencies.
- Collaboration with Internal and External Auditors: Work closely with internal and external auditors to facilitate SOX testing and control evaluations. Assist in addressing auditor queries and support the development of remediation plans to resolve any control deficiencies.
- Assist in Risk Assessments: Contribute to risk assessments related to ITGCs and system controls, ensuring alignment with business processes and financial reporting needs. Help in identifying new risks and proposing control enhancements.
- Control Design and Implementation Support: Support the IT department and business process owners in the design, implementation, and testing of ITGCs and system-related controls, ensuring that controls are properly integrated into business systems to support financial reporting and compliance.
- Process Improvement: Contribute to process improvement initiatives aimed at increasing automation and reducing manual efforts in SOX-related controls. Identify opportunities to streamline control processes and improve overall efficiency.
Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- MBA or MS in Information Systems or Accounting is a plus.
- CIA, CPA, or CISA certification is highly desired.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in industry or public accounting, preferably a mix of Big 4 and corporate internal audit experience.
- Extensive knowledge and practical experience with IT General Controls (ITGC), application controls, and internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR).
- Strong familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite) and CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, Adobe eCommerce), including architecture and configuration as they relate to financial reporting.
