Job Description: Senior Insurance Accountant

Contract Position – Start ASAP, Interviewing Immediately

Vaco is conducting a confidential search for a Senior Insurance Accountant on behalf of our client. This role is hybrid, based in the Bridgewater, NJ area (exact location to be provided to shortlisted candidates). The ideal candidate must have experience in the insurance industry, with a preference for candidates with reinsurance expertise. This is an urgent opportunity requiring immediate interviews and start dates.


Key Details:

  • Location: Hybrid, Bridgewater, NJ area (local candidates preferred within driving distance of Somerset County, NJ).

  • Compensation: $50–$70/hr (W2 only). Will work as an hourly consultant for Vaco Staffing. 6 month contract position with potential to extend or convert to permanent.

  • Employment Type: No C2C, 1099, or sponsorship options available now or in the future.

  • Availability: Immediate.


Role Responsibilities:

The Senior Insurance Accountant will be responsible for managing data-driven accounting processes, reconciling complex systems, and supporting large-scale transactional operations. Core responsibilities include:

  • Managing daily loss funding transactions and AP voucher certification.

  • Setting up and automating reconciliation programs for escrow balances and insurance company accounts, handling thousands of transactions weekly.

  • Conducting and reviewing account reconciliations and variance analyses, including receivables and subledger postings.

  • Addressing funding and banking issues as they arise.

  • Supporting journal entries and participating in monthly/quarterly close processes.

  • Utilizing Oracle ARS (Accounts Receivable Subledger) and other ERP systems to manipulate and analyze large datasets.

  • Collaborating with IT to develop automated tools for matching and reconciling receivables.

  • Engaging in audits of Third-Party Administrators (TPAs), including verifying compliance with documentation requirements.

  • Communicating with external third-party contacts to resolve accounting discrepancies or compliance issues.

  • Performing advanced Excel-based tasks involving datasets with large volumes of data and leveraging other software tools as needed (e.g., Access databases, Power BI, or SQL).

  • Supporting accruals, reclassifications, and adjustment entries.

  • Assisting with both internal and external audit engagements, ensuring procedural compliance.

  • Identifying and implementing process improvements in collaboration with finance, IT, and operational teams.


Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in accounting or finance.

    • Strong expertise in reconciliation processes and large-scale transactional accounting.

    • Familiarity with Oracle ARS (Accounts Receivable Subledger) or similar ERP systems.

    • Experience working in insurance accounting, particularly with escrow and loss transactions. Reinsurance experience is a strong plus.

    • Prior involvement in internal and external audits.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including handling and analyzing large datasets.

    • Experience with Access databases, Power BI, SQL, or other tools for managing and visualizing large-scale data.

    • Ability to customize ERP systems for different organizational needs.

  • Soft Skills:

    • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently in a dynamic environment.
