Role: Interim Controller
Pay Rate: $100/hr -$120/hr
Hybrid 3 days a week onsite
6 months contract potential to extend
Location: NYC Manhattan
Overview:
A high-growth software company in the technology sector is seeking an experienced Interim Controller to lead and stabilize its accounting and finance operations during a period of transition and transformation. Following the recent resignation of the former Controller, this interim leader will support the company through its next phase of growth, bringing a strong background in audit readiness, revenue recognition, IPO preparation, and scaling finance processes in a dynamic, cloud-based SaaS environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Oversee full-cycle accounting and finance functions, including general ledger, revenue accounting, payroll, accounts payable (AP), and accounts receivable (AR)

Manage, mentor, and support a team of 6 (mix of new and tenured professionals)

Ensure timely and accurate month-end and quarter-end closes

Lead revenue recognition processes, with strong understanding of ASC 606 for SaaS/Cloud revenue models

Prepare and coordinate for external audits; ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls

Drive process improvements and implement scalable systems aligned with company growth

Partner with the CFO to support strategic financial initiatives and IPO readiness planning

Manage accounting operations in a multi-entity, international environment

Support system optimization; NetSuite preferred, but experience with other large ERPs acceptable
Ideal Profile:
-
Proven experience as a Controller or Interim Controller in a tech-forward, growth-stage company
-
Deep understanding of SaaS business models, revenue recognition (ASC 606), and subscription-based billing
-
Strong audit background, preferably with Big 4 or public accounting foundation

Experience preparing for or supporting IPO readiness and public company reporting requirements

Familiarity with international operations, consolidations, and currency considerations

Expertise in NetSuite or similar enterprise-level ERP platforms

Ability to lead and stabilize teams through change with empathy, clarity, and accountability

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Preferred Qualifications:

CPA strongly preferred

10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience

Previous experience working in cloud-native or AI-driven tech environments a plus
