

Senior Accountant (Payroll) POST NUMBER: 450016
Addison, TX – 4 days onsite (work from home during close)
One of Vaco’s longstanding clients is looking for a Senior Accountant focused on payroll to join their team. This role will have the most interaction with the payroll team and be responsible for administering all the incentives – sales commissions, bonuses, statistics around FTEs/metrics, payroll/PTO accrual analysis.

Compensation: $80-95K
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed payroll accrual journal entries, including salaries, bonuses, commissions, and PTO (paid time off) accruals, on a monthly and quarterly basis.
- Reconcile payroll-related GL accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to auditor inquiries.
- Prepare and process monthly/bi-weekly payroll inputs related to sales commissions, incentive bonuses, and other variable compensation, ensuring compliance with company policy and applicable laws.
- Collaborate with HR, Sales, and Finance teams to validate commission and bonus data, and maintain auditable documentation.
- Analyze and maintain FTE counts and trends, producing statistical reports for leadership and Finance business partners.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
- Participate in month-end and year-end close activities related to payroll and labor costs.
- Contribute to process improvements and documentation of payroll accounting procedures and controls.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3 years of payroll accounting experience, preferably in a commission-based or bonus-heavy compensation environment.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and payroll-related accounting principles.
- Experience with payroll software (e.g., ADP, Paylocity, UKG) and ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle).
- Strong Excel skills (VLOOKUP, PivotTables, formulas) and experience working with large data sets.
