About the Company:
Our client is a respected residential real estate management firm based in New York City. Known for its commitment to operational excellence and regulatory integrity, the firm oversees a diverse portfolio of multifamily residential properties throughout the five boroughs. They are currently seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Director of Compliance to lead all compliance-related initiatives and ensure alignment with NYC's evolving local laws and housing regulations.
Position Summary:
The Director of Compliance will oversee building-specific regulatory compliance across the firm's residential portfolio. The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of NYC residential building codes and compliance processes, as well as prior experience in a paralegal or legal support capacity. This role involves close collaboration with property managers, legal vendors, and energy consultants, and includes managing a small support team.
Key Responsibilities:
Residential Building Compliance

Track and manage all compliance deadlines for residential properties, including FISP, LL152, LL84, LL87, LL97, LL88, and other NYC housing regulations.

Evaluate and implement software solutions to ensure timely compliance monitoring across all residential buildings.

Maintain accurate records of personnel and property transitions to ensure proper delivery of violation notices and compliance alerts.

Oversee ongoing compliance efforts related to window guards, fire safety, emergency preparedness, and bulk storage permits.
Training & Internal Education

Design and coordinate training sessions for residential property managers on evolving building codes and compliance requirements.

Select qualified presenters, coordinate session logistics, and oversee video production where applicable.

Participate in the onboarding and training of new employees on compliance-related systems and protocols.
Energy Compliance Liaison

Serve as the point of contact with Aurora Energy Advisors, the firm’s energy consulting partner.

Guide residential managers and clients through energy law requirements, including LL97, LL88, and LL84.

Review energy capital plans and ensure timely data transmission during property transitions to maintain compliance and accurate account management.
Team Management

Supervise and support two compliance-focused staff members.

Collaborate with internal departments and serve as a resource on best practices in residential compliance.
Qualifications:

Minimum 7 years of experience in a compliance or regulatory role within residential property management.

Prior experience as a paralegal or within a legal/compliance department is strongly preferred.

In-depth knowledge of NYC housing regulations and local law requirements for multifamily buildings.

Proficient with compliance tracking platforms (e.g., SiteCompli).

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with attention to detail.
