Senior Payroll Specialist – Prevailing Wage (Hybrid – Long Beach, CA)
Vaco is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist with strong prevailing wage expertise to join a growing team in Long Beach, CA. This is a critical, direct hire opportunity and the chance to make an immediate impact.

What You’ll Do:

Process and review semi-monthly payrolls for 1,350–1,400 employees (exempt and non-exempt)

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws

Maintain and update payroll records for new hires, terminations, promotions, and benefit deductions

Audit and reconcile payroll reports; resolve discrepancies

Prepare and file quarterly and annual payroll tax reports (941, W-2, W-3, 940)

Collaborate with HR and Finance on employee data, benefits, and payroll integration

Lead prevailing wage and labor/contract compliance programs

Monitor business activities for prevailing wage compliance and provide guidance to leadership

Stay up-to-date on wage regulations and train managers on compliance requirements

Support internal/external payroll audits and month-end closing tasks

Mentor junior payroll staff and lead process improvement initiatives
What We’re Looking For:
-
7 years’ experience in prevailing wage, certified payroll, and contract compliance
-
Multi-state payroll experience required
-
Workday experience a plus (ADP, Paycom, Paylocity also considered)

Strong knowledge of FLSA, wage/hour regulations, and payroll best practices

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or related field preferred
-
CPP, FPC, or similar payroll certifications a plus

Excellent attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills
Join a collaborative payroll team of 4 within a large, multi-state organization -
Be the subject matter expert on prevailing wage compliance
