With a collaborative culture and a focus on operational excellence, they are seeking a strategic accounting and finance leader to join their Charlotte headquarters.
Position Summary:
This is a high-visibility role offering a clear succession plan to Vice President of Finance & Treasurer within 2–3 years. Starting as Controller, the successful candidate will oversee all corporate accounting functions, ensure compliance with GAAP and government contracting regulations (FAR, CAS, DCAA), and partner with leadership on financial strategy. The position combines traditional corporate accounting with project-based (job cost) accounting to support operational leaders in enhancing project profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP, FAR, and CAS.
- Oversee AR, AP, payroll, fixed asset accounting, and project/job cost accounting functions.
- Prepare annual incurred cost submissions and manage DCAA audit processes, including provisional/pricing indirect rates and disclosure statements.
- Support tax compliance, including coordination with external accounting firms, preparation of supporting schedules, and review of state/federal returns.
- Provide operational and financial performance reporting to executives and project managers, driving improved metrics and decision-making.
- Develop, implement, and enhance accounting policies, internal controls, and process documentation.
- Manage, mentor, and develop accounting team members to build a strong finance function.
- Partner with leadership on strategic financial initiatives in preparation for VP of Finance/Treasurer transition.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
- 10 years of progressive accounting leadership, ideally within government contracting and project-based industries.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, FAR, CAS, and DCAA compliance requirements.
- Proven experience in monthly close, audits, tax preparation/review, and project/job cost accounting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; Microsoft Dynamics experience preferred.
- Skilled communicator with the ability to build cross-functional relationships.
- Strategic mindset with a high degree of integrity, organization, and problem-solving capability.
