Job Title: Controller
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the accounting, finance, and trust operations across a diverse portfolio of entities, including nonprofit and for-profit. This role will provide strategic leadership, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and manage a dedicated team of accounting and trust professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accountants, trust administrators, and support staff, providing guidance on daily activities and performance management.
  • Manage the financial reporting process and maintain strong internal controls across multiple business units.
  • Oversee month-end and year-end close, ensuring accuracy in journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.
  • Develop annual budgets, financial forecasts, and performance analyses for all entities; monitor and explain significant variances.
  • Oversee treasury and cash management functions, payroll processing, expense reimbursements, and vendor payments.
  • Coordinate annual audits and act as primary liaison with external auditors, tax professionals, and insurance providers.
  • Review and approve tax filings, including nonprofit and for-profit returns, as well as payroll-related forms.
  • Support the Trust by supervising year-end processing, preparing financial information, and overseeing external reviews.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on MS Dynamics 365 BC, while supporting enhancements to accounting and trust systems.
  • Present financial insights and updates to leadership and board members to support strategic decision-making.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
  • 10 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role within a small to mid-sized organization.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, as well as experience with nonprofit, for-profit, cooperative, and trust accounting and tax requirements.
  • Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyze and manipulate large data sets; experience with tools such as Power BI, Jet Reports, or similar reporting platforms.
  • Proficiency with full-service accounting systems (MS Dynamics 365 BC preferred).
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to stakeholders.
