About the Opportunity 
  • Role Accountabilities Tax Compliance: Manage the Canadian and US tax compliance process to ensure that the company has complied with tax laws in Canada, US, BVI, Barbados and other countries where there are no tax personnel and ensure that all necessary tax returns are filed on a timely basis and accurately.
  • Ensure that all Canadian tax compliance filings have detailed reviews. Review or prepare return to provision analysis with a detailed summary of differences to ensure tax accounting for such differences is in accordance with IAS 12 requirements.
  • Monitor the company’s transfer pricing initiatives via documentation of intercompany transactions and transfer pricing methodology applied to intercompany transactions.
  • Review of the global tax compliance tracker to ensure completeness of annual tax filings.
  • Tax Financial Reporting Support the financial reporting process for taxation to ensure complete and accurate disclosure while anticipating the impact of changes in tax law and accounting principles on the effective tax rate and disclosure.
  • Review and preparation of timely, accurate external financial tax reporting that complies with regulatory requirements and meets the needs of investors, analysts, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensuring financial tax information contained in other external reporting is accurate (ESTMA, CSR Report, Management Information Circular, 40F, Annual Information Form, etc.).
  • Assists in managing the relationship with the Company’s external auditors and facilitates timely and positive conclusions to ongoing assurance engagements related to tax.
  • Provide tax calculation input and review to the FPA function in support of corporate models to ensure impairment computations are complete and accurate with respect to tax.
  • Tax Controversy: Manage tax authority audits, tax litigation proceedings, and information requests from revenue authorities.
  • Actively participate as requested in tax authority audits by preparing reconciliations, tax data and response documentation. Maintain all responses and any potential tax exposures in our consolidated tracker Ensure with the assistance of the tax analyst.
  • Tax Planning: Assist the Director, Tax with provision of tax advice with respect to tax planning, special projects, transactions and analytical support related to tax.
  • Assist with the calculation input and review of the FPA function in support of corporate models to ensure that models are capable of projecting future taxes in order to evaluate tax legislation changes, implications of alternative tax filing positions, implications of tax planning opportunities and scenario forecasting projections.
  • Assist with tax due diligence, structuring of acquisitions as well as capital raising transactions.
  • Assist in ensuring all procedures required to maintain a tax structure are documented in an easy to understand format
  • Provide ad-hoc support to the Director, Tax with routine tax advisory and special projects on a regular basis.
  • Travel 10% to 15% travel – site visits and conference attendance, as needed.
About You 
  • Experience And Qualifications
  • University degree and professional accounting designation, CPA, CA
  • Completion of CICA In-depth income tax course, Parts I and II
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant tax experience including 2 or more years of mining industry experience
  • Excelled knowledge of the application of Canadian corporate income tax
  • Able to lead financial statement audits – tax provisions
  • Experience with corporate reorganizations, transactions and other tax planning
  • Experience within a US SOX compliance environment
  • Experience in the management of the career of direct reports
  • Dealings with complex Canadian corporate income tax return filings
  • Knowledge And Skills
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian corporate taxation and tax accounting under IAS 12
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian international tax rules and transfer pricing law/methodologies
  • Working knowledge with inter-jurisdictional taxation concepts and planning
  • Good working knowledge of LAN based computer programs including Excel, Word
  • Excellent people skills to be used in building constructive working relationships across the boundaries of the organization, characterized by a high level of acceptance, cooperation and mutual respect.
  • A logical, analytic thinker who takes a numeric, systems-based approach to problem-solving
  • Good tax research skills
  • Strong analytical skills: able to discern large amounts of information and focus on the critical issues

Salary Range 
$130,000 - $140,000 / year
