Sales & Use Tax Consultant
Location: Onsite 3 days/week (Brentwood, TN area)
Schedule: Full?time, 40 hours/week
Start Date: 2/23 or 3/1
About the Role
A growing finance team is seeking a Sales & Use Tax Consultants to support expanding tax compliance needs. This contract roles will focus on multi?state tax filings, account reconciliations, and compliance process improvements. This is a great opportunity for candidates with strong tax technical skills who thrive in a hands?on, fast?moving environment.
The ideal consultant has experience preparing complex sales & use tax returns, property tax filings, and fuel tax returns, along with the ability to partner cross?functionally and respond to tax notices with accuracy and professionalism.
Responsibilities
You will support the tax function by handling a variety of compliance and accounting duties, including:
- Preparing timely and accurate multi?state sales and use tax returns, including more complex jurisdictions
- Preparing property tax returns across multiple locations
- Preparing fuel tax returns for multiple customers
- Completing monthly tax accrual reconciliations
- Reviewing and responding to state and local tax notices
- Supporting sales & use tax audit requests
- Reviewing capital expenditures and consumable invoices to ensure accurate sales/use tax treatment
- Reviewing tax exemption/resale certificates for accuracy
- Preparing business license applications and renewals
- Maintaining statutory tax calendars, including deadlines and extensions
- Identifying opportunities to streamline and improve tax compliance processes
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred
- OR 6 years of relevant tax experience in lieu of degree
- Minimum 2 years of experience preparing multi?state sales & use tax, property tax, and fuel tax compliance
- Experience with tax software such as OneSource and Vertex
- Experience with account reconciliation tools (e.g., Blackline, AssureNET)
Skills
- Strong proficiency in Excel and Word
- Ability to handle multi?state tax filings accurately and independently
- Strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills
- Ability to work onsite at least 3 days per week
- Detail?oriented with the ability to meet strict deadlines
