Role Overview
A growing real estate ownership group is seeking a Senior Property Accountant to take the lead on the financial operations of a diverse commercial portfolio. This position is designed for an accounting professional who is comfortable owning the full accounting cycle, navigating complex lease structures, and working with minimal oversight. The ideal candidate brings advanced Yardi proficiency, strong analytical instincts, and a professional approach to tenant and operational support.
Primary Responsibilities
Portfolio Accounting & Reporting
- Manage day-to-day and month-end accounting for a multi-entity, multi?property commercial portfolio.
- Prepare monthly financial packages, ensuring accuracy across the general ledger, cash accounts, and supporting schedules.
- Perform reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries while maintaining consistency with internal accounting standards and GAAP.
- Review financial performance each month and produce narrative analysis explaining variances in revenue, expenses, and operating metrics.
- Handle routine treasury-related tasks, including monitoring liquidity, preparing funding movements, and managing online banking permissions.
Lease Administration & Expense Recovery
- Maintain and update all lease information in Yardi, including new agreements, amendments, rent changes, and critical date tracking.
- Process recurring rent, adjustments, and contractual escalations.
- Administer tenant sales reporting and calculate percentage rent obligations when applicable.
- Complete annual reconciliations for recoverable expenses, ensuring proper classification of operating, capital, and non-billable items.
AP Oversight & Capital Tracking
- Supervise the invoice workflow, ensuring each charge is properly coded and paid within established timelines.
- Track capital spending, tenant improvement commitments, and project-related costs in coordination with internal teams.
- Monitor property tax schedules and ensure all required remittances are made on time.
Tenant Interaction & Receivables Management
- Serve as an internal resource for tenant billing questions, ledger reviews, and account clarification.
- Process incoming payments and maintain an accurate receivables aging.
- Manage occasional manual check receipts and exceptions-based payment activity.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or progress toward designation is a plus).
- At least five years of progressive accounting experience within commercial real estate.
- Prior responsibility for a sizable portfolio of income?producing assets.
Technical Expertise
- High-level proficiency with Yardi Voyager (7S or 8), including lease setup, reporting, and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of NNN leasing structures, retail recovery concepts, and percentage rent billing.
- Advanced Excel capabilities for reconciliation, analysis, and ad hoc reporting.
