Controller POST NUMBER: 471208
Role: Controller
Salary: $150,000 - $180,000/annually Bonus & Benefits
Location: Brooklyn, New York (Near the Brooklyn Navy Yard) - *Hybrid - 3 days a week onsite*
The Role
We are seeking a high-integrity, hands-on Controller to take full ownership of the financial engine behind our digital manufacturing and advertising production operations. This role is designed for a technical expert who thrives on the "shop floor" as much as the boardroom. You aren't just managing a ledger; you are untangling complex inventory flows, optimizing WIP (Work-in-Process) accounting, and building margin visibility from the ground up.
Whether you are a seasoned Corporate Controller or an Assistant Controller ready for the "hot seat," you must be comfortable in a high-growth, acquisition-heavy environment where systems are still being perfected.
Core Responsibilities
-
Inventory & WIP Mastery: Full-cycle management of inventory accounting across multiple locations, including oversight of complex inter-company transfers and job-costing accuracy.
-
Cost Accounting & Margins: Drive deep visibility into product and project margins. Identify variances in labor, materials, and overhead to ensure the business is pricing and producing profitably.
-
Financial Guardianship: Take full ownership of the Balance Sheet and month-end close. Ensure strict adherence to accrual accounting principles.
-
System Optimization: Act as a "power user" of our ERP. You should be comfortable reviewing and validating system-driven reporting and SQL-based outputs to ensure data integrity.
-
Process Cleanup: Lead the charge in fixing messy inventory processes and resolving historical inaccuracies to create a "source of truth" for the organization.
-
Audit & Integration: Act as the primary point of contact for external audits and lead financial integration efforts for new acquisitions.
Technical Must-Haves
-
The Manufacturing Foundation: Deep expertise in Job Costing, WIP, and Cost Accounting. You understand how a physical product moves through a ledger.
-
Multi-Site Experience: Proven track record managing inventory transfers and valuations across multiple facilities.
-
Systems Fluency: You are not afraid of data. You have experience with ERP transitions and are comfortable with SQL-based reporting outputs.
-
Accounting Rigor: Strong background in accrual accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, and audit preparation.
Operational & Cultural Fit
-
The "Clean-up" Mindset: You aren't looking for a "maintenance" role. You enjoy the challenge of improving imperfect systems and professionalizing financial processes.
-
Hands-on Execution: You are happy to roll up your sleeves to investigate a warehouse discrepancy one hour and present a margin analysis to the Board the next.
-
Acquisition Ready: Experience in (or a desire to learn) acquisition integration—bringing new entities into the fold with speed and accuracy.
Qualifications & Profile
-
Experience: 7 years of progressive experience in Manufacturing, Fabrication, or Production environments.
-
Versatility: We will consider Corporate Manufacturing Controllers, high-performing Assistant Controllers ready to step up, or Public Accountants with a heavy manufacturing/industrial client portfolio.
-
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA/CMA preferred but secondary to "real world" manufacturing experience.
