Director, Insurance Product Management
Location: Hybrid (3 days onsite weekly)
About the Opportunity
A growing organization within the insurance and financial services industry is seeking a Director of Insurance Product Management to lead the execution, delivery, and continuous improvement of enterprise insurance systems and operational capabilities.
This leadership role will partner with stakeholders across business, technology, operations, actuarial, compliance, finance, data, and vendor organizations to establish strategic direction, manage roadmaps, and ensure successful delivery of key initiatives. The position is responsible for overseeing a team of Product Managers while driving execution across a portfolio of insurance technology and business process solutions.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with deep insurance industry experience who can effectively balance strategic planning with operational execution while managing multiple concurrent initiatives in a complex, regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead execution of technology and operational roadmaps across multiple insurance business systems and capabilities.
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of Product Managers, ensuring alignment with business priorities and delivery objectives.
- Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to establish priorities, manage dependencies, and drive successful outcomes.
- Partner with leadership to define long-term strategy and vision for insurance platforms and operational processes.
- Oversee requirements gathering, business process analysis, and identification of automation and efficiency opportunities.
- Ensure business needs are effectively translated into product requirements, workflows, user stories, acceptance criteria, and backlog priorities.
- Drive prioritization decisions across new development, production support, operational improvements, technical debt, and resource constraints.
- Provide governance and oversight for backlog management, release planning, and delivery execution.
- Partner with engineering, quality assurance, operations, data, and vendor teams to support planning, testing, deployment, and post-release activities.
- Lead business readiness efforts, including user acceptance testing, training coordination, process updates, stakeholder approvals, and adoption tracking.
- Manage production issue resolution and escalation processes, balancing business impact, risk, and urgency.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators related to operational efficiency, quality, automation, user adoption, and service effectiveness.
- Oversee vendor relationships and collaborate on contract renewals and service management activities.
- Foster a culture of accountability, quality, and continuous improvement across the product management function.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- 12 years of experience in product management, product ownership, business analysis, or related enterprise application functions.
- Prior experience leading and developing Product Managers or similar professionals.
- Background within insurance, financial services, or another highly regulated industry.
- Experience managing enterprise applications supporting core business operations, customer servicing, workflow management, data exchange, document management, or related business functions.
- Strong understanding of Agile and iterative software development methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex portfolios with competing priorities and cross-functional dependencies.
- Experience partnering with senior business leaders to develop strategy and translate vision into actionable roadmaps.
- Proven ability to collaborate across operations, finance, compliance, data, technology, and third-party vendor organizations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience troubleshooting system, process, integration, and operational challenges.
- Familiarity with APIs, system integrations, enterprise workflows, batch processing, and data validation activities.
- Experience creating and refining epics, features, user stories, business rules, and acceptance criteria.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and execution skills with the ability to drive results in a dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting insurance products, policy administration platforms, claims systems, customer servicing operations, or other insurance technology environments.
- Familiarity with life insurance, annuities, retirement products, or related financial services offerings.
- Experience leading large-scale operational or technology transformation initiatives.
